Writing Workshops

Writing the Missing Story: This workshop excavates our missing stories. What stories/poems are tumbling inside your chest that are missing from the world around you? What truths are curled on the insides of your bones aching to be spoken and written? What experiences are you praying some writer writes for you so you can, for once, see your own reflection in books/blogs/tweets/literature/film? Writing the Missing Story consists of various writing prompts, exercises and discussions that serve the purpose of crafting those stories/poems/essays missing from the media around us. We write together, creating an alternative reality of the written truth of our experiences. At the end of the workshop, everyone will leave with tools to continue to deepen the writing we began together. No previous writing required.
“I really enjoyed taking moments to be a student, sharing one’s thoughts, and a moment to not only reflect-but heal through my experiences. To slow things down and really think about what and why I am doing what I am doing. Absolutely loved the poems as a fellow poet myself and seeing how we all can continue sharing our sacred spaces and honoring our creativity to heal together.”

The Cost + Solidarity Pricing
I believe in solidarity pricing, which offers sliding scale payment options for people to pay according to their financial ability. Tier 1 – $300 for those who paying the full price would be a financial hinderance to participating, Tier 2 – $500 is the full price for this workshop, Tier 3 – $800 for those who desire to pay it forward–by paying for their own participation and paying towards a fellow community member’s participation in the workshop. For those who want to participate, but are unable to pay and would like a scholarship or a payment plan, you can apply for a scholarship or request a payment plan here. I aim to make the spaces I curate as inclusive as possible. Please include your email address in the note section of your payment.
Writing/Editing
My role as an editor is to amplify the work of the writers I work with, to share a different perspective that allows them to make the choices that deepen their writing. I offer my perspective, thoughts, and expertise while asking questions that help you as the writer find the answers in you. As a freelance editor, I offer 4 kinds of editing services: developmental/comprehensive editing (ensuring the concepts and structure of your work are cohesive), line editing (this includes making sure the writing flows, is precise, clear and concise), copyediting (the fixing of grammar, punctuation and typos) and proofreading (ensuring overall clarity).

I am an award winning writer with experience providing writing, editing and proofreading services to non-profits, individual artists, collectives, businesses and organizations.
Type of Projects I Work On:
Bios, personal statements, artist statements, mission/vision statements, website content, newsletters, grant writing, academic writing, donor appeals, brochures, social media content & campaigns, manuscripts, poetry, fiction, essays, poetry, fiction, nonfiction, editorials, blogs, video essay scripts, training/teaching materials, and email marketing.

So much of how someone knows who you are these days, even before you speak, is how you describe yourself. How you articulate your work, your niche, your vision and what’s makes you and your work distinctive. Whether through teaching, editing or writing, I enjoy supporting people in putting who they are into words that move and stay with you, while being clear and concise. I have taught writing in community centers, high schools, universities and colleges including University of California, Berkeley, New York University and Oberlin College.
